Ujamaa is the need for the recognition and maintenance of the community, this canon in relation to this topic just shows how the Light Skin v. Dark Skin debate is looked at in our community.
Light Skinned women get 12% less time than their Dark Skinned counterparts. Employers prefer lighter skinned Black men to darker skinned Black men regardless of their qualifications. http://www.virginia.edu/woodson/people/darity-et-al-from-dark-to-light.pdf How are the values/perspectives of the Black community reflected in the research question? The memes on the side of the page shows how people in the Black community view their darker skinned counterparts. It also shows how the White community views us in general. Just because we have separated ourselves, White Americans still see us as just Black. Uhaki means that the research done is fair to everyone involved. In regard to this particular topic the research done was fair because everyone asked was apart of the African American community, we even included our classmates. Light skinned and Dark skinned people were asked the same questions and given the same opportunities to answer. Our community has not treated each other fairly in the past, but if we could just expel the thought that Light Skin is better or Dark Skin is ugly we could unify and rise above all the obstacles trying to prohibit us from excelling.
